Kurdistan Region welcomes Abadi’s initiative for dialogue

The Council of Ministers of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) convened on Thursday, October 19, to discuss the recent events in the Kurdish disputed territories following the military incursion of the Baghdad-backed Shi’ite militias of Hashd al-Shaabi.

The meeting was chaired by the KRG Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani and attended by the KRG Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani.

The meeting discussed the recent events transpired in Kirkuk Province and other Kurdish disputed territories after the offensive of the militias of Hashd al-Shaabi against those territories.

The KRG Council of Ministers welcomed the latest initiative by the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi for kickstarting negotiations between Erbil and Baghdad to resolve the issues based on Iraq’s federal constitution and the principle of partnership.

The council also called on the international community to facilitate the talks between Erbil and Baghdad.
